Report to the community
DCH Health System is participating along with other
VHA hospitals in a nationwide efort to develop a sys-
tematic and consistent method of planning, evaluating
and reporting community beneft.
Since Congress last examined the issue in the early
1990s, VHA has worked in collaboration with the
Catholic Hospital Association and the American Hos-
pital Association to develop resource tools to guide
hospitals in developing, enhancing and reporting on
their community beneft programs.
Tese tools include standard defnitions and re-
porting guidelines regarding community beneft to
encourage the establishment of a consistent and trans-
parent method of reporting community beneft among
not-for-proft hospitals. DCH Health System has ad-
opted these defnitions and guidelines.
DCH Health System has completed an analysis of
our community beneft for Fiscal Year 2010 based on
the guidelines developed by VHA, CHA and AHA and
outlined in a document titled “A Guide for Planning
and Reporting Community Beneft” that was published
in 2006 and updated in 2008.
Based on these guidelines, DCH Health System
identified a total of more than $46.7 million in
community beneft provided in Fiscal Year 2010.
Tis represents a return of approximately $10.43 for
every $1 of tax support received from Tuscaloosa
County.
