strated over and over again the afernoon and evening of April 27, 2011, and for days, weeks
and months afer that.
to the
Fiscal Year 2010
Tornado warnings were at their most urgent that day,
and the worst storm ever to hit Tuscaloosa unfortunately
was right on schedule. But no one could have predicted
what would be lef behind afer its deadly winds moved on.
Te story has been told many times about the number
of people treated in the emergency departments at DCH
Regional Medical Center and Northport Medical Center
and the continued care of the many people who were
admitted to the hospitals.
As the day afer the tornado was dawning with clear,
blue skies, the DCH employees who could were going into
some of the hardest-hit areas, serving others on their own
time. Tey delivered food, water and supplies or helped
upload truckloads of supplies. Tey worked alongside
those who had lost their homes to help them fnd any
personal property that could be saved. Tey manned a
frst-aid tent at Holt Elementary School for more than two
weeks afer the storm. Some DCH employees, as well as
some members of the DCH medical staf, took time to
help in other afected areas, such as Hackleburg, Miss.
Many employees continue to help others rebuild their
lives as Tuscaloosa continues to rebuild as a city.
DCH employees also can be found inmany other endeav-
ors, donating their time to work with organizations such as
the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce; T-Town Paws;
Soup Kitchen; Black Warrior Council of the Boy Scouts of
America; and ARC of Fayette, Lamar andMarion counties.
DCH employees help raise money to support medical
research through events such as the American Heart Walk,
the March of Dimes Walk, the American Cancer Society
Relay For Life and the American Diabetes Association
Walk to Stop Diabetes.
