DCH Regional Medical Center is designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. A Blue
Distinction Center must have intensive care, emergency and a full range of cardiac services. The Regional Medical Center offers comprehensive
cardiac care services, including an Emergency Department, inpatient cardiac care, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiac catheterization and cardiac
surgery, including coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

“I was at home and started having chest
pains. My husband was driving me to the
hospital when I went into cardiac arrest. But
when I got to the Emergency Department
at DCH, they worked their magic! I had
had a massive heart attack. They ‘pad-
dled’ me several times to get my heart
beating again and then induced hypother-
mia. I was out a couple of days, and then
they warmed my body back up. When I
woke up, my husband, doctor and nurses
were there. The staff was so concerned
and so compassionate. They explained
everything to me. They were very knowl-
edgeable and very nice. The whole team
was just great—ER, ACCU (Acute Cardiac
Care Unit) and rehab. Their care was really
heartfelt. It came from their soul.”

“While hosting a Red Cross luncheon, I was
perspiring—had nausea and a burning sensation
in my chest. I needed to go to the hospital. At
DCH, they whisked me right back to the cath
lab and immediately had 10 to 12 people
working on me. They had to ‘paddle’ me four
times, but I don’t remember anything after
the first one. Afterwards, the doctor told me
I had walked the rim of a volcano but didn’t
fall in. I had four stents put in. All the doc-
tors, nurses and staff were so attentive. Their
care contributed to my speedy recovery. I did
cardiac rehab for about a month at Northport
Medical Center. Now I’m fit and enjoying life.”

diac Care, the Regional Medical Center meets the selec-
tion criteria related to experience, quality and patient
outcomes. About 400 hospitals in the nation have been
designated Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac Care.
